Born in Madrid, Spain, Maria Lewis has travelled extensively. After living in Madrid, London, Paris and New York, she now resides in Petaluma, California.
A teacher in the North Shore of Long Island she has been a Board Director of the Council for the Arts on the North Shore; Chairperson of the Art Colony at the Americas’ Sail ‘98 at Glen Cove, Board Director of the North Shore Historical Museum and Art Director of Mezcla Media Market. Also a member of the Long Island Arts Council, the African American Museum and the American Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C. as well as the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce.
Her work reflects a continuous exploration into new media, style and subjects, with examples in a wide range of places, from Spain, Great Britain, Argentina, Russia, Japan, Australia and Switzerland to California and Florida. Some commissions include murals in private as well as public locations, like the one at the gateway to Glen Cove and one at McKinley School in Petaluma.
