Message from the Board

By Linda Postenrieder

2004 in perspective. This year has been an incredible year for PAA. The board would like to thank everyone who volunteered for and participated in the spectrum of events during 2004. In particular, we had 2 exciting new events this year: The Spirit of Color and Art of the River. Both events were well received by the community and promise to be excellent annual opportunities for PAA members.

We hope you join us at the Holiday Party at Hermans & Sons Hall on Thursday, December 2nd. Our final regular meeting of 2004 will be held on Tuesday, November 2nd. GO PAA!!

October Meeting Highlights

Craig Black was our guest artist for the October meeting program. Craig has an impressive resume including an MFA in Fine Arts & Sculpture from UC Davis, BA in Fine Arts from Contra Costa College. A MS in Biological Illustration, an AA in Fine Arts from Academy of Art College of SF. He has a lifetime teaching credential from California Community College and has taught art at many levels. A quote from his resume:

“Always Well-Prepared and Resourceful

I am an instructor and a professional in the arts who is available to listen and be sensitive to each student’s diverse needs and talents. My intuition and strong communication skills encourage questioning and personal response. In addition, my personal ability to motivate and inspire students transcends learning boundaries. These skills are reflected in my lectures, demonstrations, and critiques. My methods and personal flair recognize and focus the wide-ranging skills and talents of others, and generate an atmosphere of inspiration within the class. In addition to my strengths in the classroom, I have been admired for my support of colleagues and administrators. My tenacious abilities to problem solve, think creatively, and follow through, would make me an asset to any Art Department and professional faculty.”

Craig fulfilled our expectations of delightful critique of the artwork displayed. His method of guiding each artist through a series of questions gave everyone new tools to use in evaluating the success of a piece of art.

Art in the Park

The wrap up meeting for Art in the Park was held on Tuesday, October 4th. We have received over 25 surveys back from participants. Key issues that need to be addressed at the Annual meeting in January, include: Booth Assignment and commissions.

We’d like to make all our members aware of the support we received from the following businesses that allowed us to put up Art in the Park banners at their sites. Please support them in return!
