The meeting was called to order by Linda Postenrieder at 7:10 p.m. There were 27 members present and two guests, Elsie Winterhalter and Carol West.
Muriel Knapp was the featured member artist and gave a brief talk about her background and continuing interest in art. She went to the University of Illinois and was an Industrial Design major. She also trained in Industrial Arts. When she came to California, she went to San Francisco State and discovered her interest in textile painting. She paid $3 a semester to monitor classes. She paints on silk and other fabrics. She showed a beautiful silk painting, which Linda had framed for her with a lacing technique and Lenny took pictures for her. Muriel taught at the elementary level for 21 years.

Linda Sugar is holding a meeting for those interested in Open Studios at 7:00 PM April 7th at her house.
Linda P. reported on the status of Art in the Park. The $1000 fee originally mentioned for this event will be much lower. She will keep us posted.
JoAnn Naylor was thanked for the new nametags for all members.
Art on the Move: JoAnn Naylor reported that the Bank of Marin "Spirit of Color" exhibit will be hung on March 3 and runs to May 5. The artist reception is on April 1, from 6-8 PM. Tickets are $25, but no charge to exhibiting artists. It is underwritten by Bank of Marin with wine and food being donated. It’s possible that this will be an annual event. Artists were asked to bring a bio if available. A 35% donation is requested for any sales. Proceeds from this event go to support the art programs in local schools and the Petaluma People Services Center.
It was mentioned that Art on the Move might require artists to exhibit originals only--no prints. This discussion was tabled for future action.
Mary Gary put out a sign up sheet for the Bank of the West exhibit. It will be changed on March 10 at 1:00 PM. and will remain up until the middle of May.
JoAnn asked that artists who wish to be a part of Art on the Move send in 6 photos of their work labeled with name, address, phone, title and size. These should be representational of their overall work. Contact JoAnn for more information.
UPDATES
Linda P. reported on the Petaluma Council Meeting she attended to represent our organization in future planning for the arts. The Petaluma Arts Council is working with the Petaluma Council to try to encourage more support for the arts in Petaluma.
Lenny Eiger reported on our Website. The newsletter is available on line to those with Email access. Those without this capability may still have it mailed to them. The site will list all members with name, Email, phone, website, and cell phone numbers. Any one not wishing to have this information on the site will be able to do so. The website has gallery capability and information will be sent to individual artists who wish to showcase their artwork. Lenny mentioned that he was recently selected by Cone Edition at a PMS (Photo Marketing Association) Expo in Las Vegas to teach workshops called The Fine Print at their next expo. He also reported that he is now doing Giclee work for those interested. Contact Lenny for more information.
Linda P. updated us on Pelican Art. There is a call for an exhibit she will have at the shop on wine country artwork and anyone interested should contact her. In April there will be a show featuring “cats, dog, birds, and creatures”. There is going to be a silk painting class by Joy Lily at Pelican Art on March 28. Contact Linda for more information.
Pat Marshall advised that we need a representative to go to the Metro Hotel on March 17 to speak to a group of tourists about the art in Petaluma. Linda P. volunteered to do this.
Richard noted that we now have the guidelines for submitting grants to the PAA and a Contribution Registration Form on our Website.

Jodi Allen, a member of the SF Docent Council, spoke about a variety of artists whose artistic careers touched the San Francisco Bay area.
In an effort to save on our expenses, PAA is planning to distribute the newsletter via electronic means. The plan is to send out an email notification when the newsletter is available on the website (petalumaarts.org). For those members who have an email address listed, you can get the newsletter online. Please let us know if you prefer to get the newsletter as a Word attachment or as a link on the web site. Open Studios
We are now signing up and recreating Open Studio in conjunction with the Art and Garden downtown event, June 5-6. There were lots of exciting ideas discussed at the last planning meeting.
By now each of you have heard from Belu Jones. She has called each of us and generated a lot of enthusiasm. Those participating are required to attend the planning meeting Wed. April 7th at 7pm at Linda Sugar's, 131 Howard St, (between Bodega and Western). Open Studio sign ups at the April 6th general meeting. $45 fee due April 20.Those that have participated in years past, please check to see if you have the big Open Studio signs and either bring them to the general meeting, to the planning meeting or call Linda Sugar 773-1107.
Non-Profit Update Richard Standard, Darold Graves and Linda Postenrieder reviewed our latest communication from the IRS regarding our non-profit request. Forward progress was made on 3/11/04 when the 3 met about the options for PAA. We are considering altering the path to apply as a 501(c)6 instead of a 501(c)3. If you are interested in knowing the difference, you can go to http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p557.pdf. Stay tuned for updates.

JoAnn Naylor was accepted into the Realism 2004 Exhibit, juried by David Hardy, Director of the Atelier School of Classical Realism, and located in Oakland. The Artisans Gallery of Mill Valley is presenting the exhibit. The show runs thru April 1st.
Jerrie-Jerne Morago is showing in the Art Show @Sebastopol Regional Library- 7140 Bodega Ave. The show dates are from Mar 4th to 27th. I will have 6 of my newest series." Balletic Flowers " on display. The reception is on the 4th. Jerrie-Jerne is also showing at the Realism 2004 Exhibit.

This event is a benefit for Petaluma Arts Association and Petaluma Peoples' Service Center.
This is a new special art event that is being hosted by the Bank of Marin with the artists of PAA providing beautiful works of art for sale at this community event. A painting has been chosen to represent the event by one of our members, Michele Rosett. Posters will be printed from this painting and will be for sale in conjunction with the "Spirit of Color" Art Show. We thank everyone who participated in the poster selection. Tickets to the artist's reception will be for sale to the public for $25 and posters will be for sale at $18 each. The artists' reception is April 1st, 6:00 to 8:00. Proceeds from this event will go to PAA and Petaluma People's Center. The art show with the members' creative talents will be on display at the bank March 3rd thru May 12th. There are 37 artists who are participating in this show!!! Stop by the bank and view the exhibit, it will hang until May 12th (note: this is a change from May 5th). Tickets and posters are available for sale at the bank, located at 799 Baywood Dr. in the Marina.

Christopher Newhard
Background
Christopher Newhard is a figurative and landscape painter who works in a realist style. The artistprimarily works from life, from either models or in the field "en plein air" to interpret in twodimensions what inspires him in three dimensions. He has been a professional artist for ten years,showing in galleries in Carmel and Sacramento as well as participating in various annual painting events and festivals. Newhard recieved his MFA in painting from the New York Academy of Art,Graduate School of Figurative Art and has taught figure drawing at the San Francisco Academy of Art College for the last five years. Christopher will show slides of his work and discuss theimportance and advantages of painting from life, as well as utilizing photography and memory. The artist will also demonstrate the process of working from studies to complete larger, more complexworks.
The Petaluma Arts Association
Meets the first Tuesday of each month. Attendance is open to all members and visitors. This month’s meeting will be held Tuesday, April 6th at 7 p.m.. See you there!
