July Meeting Speaker

We have a wonderful speaker at 8PM. Bill Gittens. a Sonoma County Landscape Artist. See details on Bill on page 2 and take a look at his web site.

Our June Program was very interesting and informative. Gay Dawson of the Museum of Contemporary Art ( MOCA) @ LBC told us of the Museum’s Journey of change from SMOVA ( Sonoma Museum Of Visual Arts) to MOCA. Gay posed a very interesting question to begin her program What do we think of Art, and why is it important personally”. Numerous answers emerged from the audience including Art changes: our perspective, expresses our individuality, provides a process for enlightenment, a chance to embrace our world through Art, uplifts us and stretches our imagination. Gay showed us a number of slides of different museums to point out that the architecture of museums tends to enhance certain types of Art. This concept was a consideration in putting together the planning for MOCA’s new Museum because of it’s focus on the world of contemporary art. Contemporary art is defined historically as art from 1968 on and defined to some degree as a narrative on our world by artists of today. Gay showed us slides of a wide range of Contemporary artist’s works including a great find form the Burning Man festival.

See you on the 6th of July!
