February Meeting notes

By Linda Postenrieder

The new PAA Board presided over the February meeting with every intent of making the business section of the meeting shorter. As noble as this seems, it looks like it will be hard to accomplish with all the great events emerging from the Art on the Move and Special events calendar. A couple of changes to the standard format include the addition of an “Art talk” each month. This is an opportunity for members to get up and spend 2-5 minutes talking about why they are artists and what inspires their work. Richard Standard was our speaker this month and presented a thumbnail sketch of his vast art background. We look forward to hearing from Muriel Knapp and Linda Postenrieder at the March meeting.

February Program

Jae Tillinghast is a passionate artist who graduated from CSU Fullerton and did her graduate work at the New York City Graduate School of Figurative Art. She presented a very interesting slide show on the work of her students from art 1 to the Advanced Program (AP) class. They study realism, cubism, impressionism and expressionism. The slide show demonstrated the types of art each class is assigned. Jae talked of a couple of assignments that the students love including a kaleidoscope exercise that results in a tremendous amount of color and symmetric design. The students show exceptional talent and we are proud to be a sponsor of Jae’s efforts to create a 2005 calendar with her student’s art.

Corporate Memberships

Pelican Art became our first gold corporate member with a donation of $1000. A new advantage to the corporate membership is the ability of the corporate sponsor to designate artist memberships. As shown below, depending on the donation level, a corporate member can designate 1-5 artists that they sponsor for the year. Pelican Art has designated Linda Postenrieder, Donna Hinshaw, Aaron Foppe, Karen Ford and Karen Paterson as their sponsored artists. If you know a corporation that may want to be a member, you may be able to get yourself sponsored for 2004. If you have questions about this program, please contact Linda or Richard (board members). Tutto Amiamo Galleria (707-789-0411 100 Petaluma Blvd No #101) also became a corporate member at the $100 level.
