The Petaluma Arts Association
Meets the first Tuesday of each month. Attendance is open to all members and visitors. Regular monthly meetings will resume in February. The Annual Planning meeting will be January 17, details will be in the January Newsletter.
The PAA Meetings are held at the United Church of Christ, 825 Middlefield Road, Petaluma, California. From Petaluma Blvd. South turn south onto Mountain View, left on Mission, right on Middlefield, left into the parking lot. Meeting room borders the parking lot.

Due to the scheduled remodel of the Helen Putnam room, there will be no Library show in 2004. We look forward to a larger, more inviting space in the future.

Hermann Sons hall at 860 Western Avenue at Webster. If you signed up at the November 4th meeting, there is no need to RSVP. If you did not, please call Mary Bales at 762-2978 to reserve your space by Friday, December 5. Leave your name, number of people and food you will provide for 12. It is a great space and we look forward to a jovial holiday gathering with all who are able to join us. Volunteers are still needed—call Jan Lee 789-9662 or Margo at 773-1484.

Delete article 12 that says: When a work of art is sold through the auspices of a show sponsored by PAA, PAA reserves the right to charge a commission.

Change the name of article 13 to article 12 Board of Directors.

A motion to accept the amendments was passed with a quorum of 17 attendees and 6 yes votes by proxy.

Bank of the West show: Mary Gary is taking names of those who would like to be in the next show.

Web site: Richard Standard used a laptop to show the new web site. Some of the features include: About Us, Exhibits, Members, Gallery, Website Member Access, Rental Gallery, Local Art Resources, Contact page, community Connections, and Friends/Sponsors Page. Richard also explained the levels of Sponsorship available, Gold $1,000, Silver $500, and Bronze $250.

Richard also reported that the Newsletter will be published on our site. Members with online access will obtain monthly copies in this manner. Discussion developed with regard to access to copies by members who are not online. This was tabled due to time constraints and will be decided at a later meeting.

A vote was taken to raise the annual dues donation: Active Member $25 and Contributing member $100. New benefit! These members will have mention on the web site in the Friends of PAA Section.

Art on the move: JoAnn reported on the new Bank of Marin Exhibit.

The program by Kent Kemp was enthralling and exciting. Even though the hour was late, many who wanted to leave were spellbound by his presentation.

Gallery One “Galaxy in Color” a juried exhibit through December 24th includes these members artwork: Maggie Barnes, Jerne Morago, Joann Naylor, Lance Kuehne, Ed Bridant, & Rene Shipley.
“Bon Appetite” a juried exhibit presented by artisans of Mill Valley November 7th through November 28th. Jerne Morago and JoAnn Naylor are participants.
“Miniatures at the Manor” a juried exhibit presented by Plaza arts of Healdsburg, participating artist: JoAnn Naylor, November 10th through January 5th.
“Ho” Humphrey has a window at Katydids on Kentucky Street.

Bank of Marin show is from November 3 through January 7th (note this is a change for the ending date—pick-up will be on Wednesday!) participating artists are: Maria Bales, Maggie Barnes, Ed Bridant, Lori Chatterton, Mary Gary, Darold Graves, Muriel Knapp, Jerne Morago, JoAnn Naylor, Richard Standard, Karen West, and Rita Young.
Kurt Kemp was the speaker at our November meeting. He showed slides of his print making and sharing his philosophy and the meaning of his work. He draws from the world around him for his subject matter and also uses historic abstractionist for inspiration. Kurt was very interesting and we appreciated his sharing his work with the group and look forward to one of his exhibits.

Kurt Kemp has shown his prints from 1979 to 2003 in hundreds of shows both in this country and around the world. Between the year 1982 and 2003 he has exhibited in many solo exhibitions. He has been a resident artist at the University of South Dakota, Vanderbuilt University, and Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston, Mass. Kurt's work is included in many public and private collections. In 1999 Kurt was appointed Dayton-Hudson Distinguished Artist Teacher Chair at Carleton College, Northfield MN, In 1979 Kurt received a B.A. from Marycrest College , Davenport, IA In 1981 Kurt received M.A. in Printmaking at the University of Iowa In 1984. Kurt received an M.F.A. in Printmaking at the University of Iowa. Starting in 1981 Kurt has taught printmaking at many Universities and colleges and has taught at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park since 1990.

A quorum of the membership voted to amend our bylaws to make them
more conducive to guidelines suggested to obtain non profit status.
Delete Article 2, Section 6 that states: "PAA will provide the
opportunity to members to exhibit and promote their works of art."

Change Article 4, Section 3 that states: "The term of office is one
year. A member may only serve two (2) consecutive years in the same
office except for Treasurer who may serve six (3) consecutive years."
to say instead: "The term of office is one year. A member may only
serve two (2) consecutive years in the same office except for
Treasurer who may serve three (3) consecutive years."

Change Article 10, Section 2 which says: "Members may be assessed
additional fees, not to exceed their yearly dues, for routine or unusual
expenses when funds in the treasury are depleted..." to say instead:
"Members may be assessed additional donations, not to exceed their
yearly dues..."


Active Member $25.00 Donation Annually.
Joint Active Members $40.00 Donation Annually.

This added $5.00 per year to dues for Active Members and Joint Active
members, annualized out at 42 cents a month per person.
Active member definition: Attends at least 60% of meetings - 7 per year.
Works on a least one committee or actively involved in one of our events
as support personnel.

Associate Member - Stays @ $ 50.00.
Contributing member- $100.00.

Check out SPARK on channel 9 , Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8:00 - it shows arts in the Bay Area, ceramics, dance, painting, theatre. Always a surprise! I love it.
